CONVECTION: DROPPING JAR WITH LIT CANDLE
Convection- Inflow of Oxygen- Ceases In Freefall
A candle in a jar needs oxygen to burn, which flows into the jar as the hot gases rise. The dropping jar is in freefall with no net gravity- convection ceases. As the oxygen supply diminishes the flame dims. It is extinguished by cooling.
