COMPLEX COPPER IONS IN LIGAND EXCHANGE REACTION
Acidification of Complex Copper II Ions
Nitric acid is added to a deep blue ammonaical solution of [Cu(NH3)4]2+. The solution is converted to the pale blue [Cu(H2O)4]2+. A precipitate of CuOH(s) also forms. Complexes like [Cu(NH3)4]2+ that exchange ligands rapidly are called labile.
