MAGNESIUM REACTS WITH WATER & HCL: 3 of 3
When HCL Is Added Magnesium Reacts Vigorously
With the addition of hydrochloric acid, the pH of the solution is lowered, making disappear the pink of the phenolphthalein. Magnesium chloride is formed and hydrogen gas evolves vigorously.
