COMPLEX ION FORMATION: NH3(LIGAND) ADDED TO CuSO4
Copper Sulfate And Ammonium Hydroxide
A reversible substitution of ligands: Addition of NH4OH to solution of Cu(H2O)6 2+ precipitates Cupric Hydroxide Cu(OH)2 & forms deep blue Cu(H2O)2(NH3)4 2+ ion . Adding more NH4OH dissolves precipitate leaving the blue solution of Cu(NH3)4.
