REDUCTION OF POTASSIUM PERMANGANATE
(Variations Available)
Reaction With Carbon Hydrogen Compound C10H16
A drop of turpentine (pinene) is added to solution of KMNO4 in ethanol. Baeyer test for unsaturation in hydrocarbons. Reddish purple color of permanganate ion turns a muddy brown as MnO2 is formed by reduction of the permanganate by the double bonds.
