BENEDICT'S TEST FOR SIMPLE SUGARS
Color Shift Indicates Presence of Monosaccharides
Glucose is added to a test tube containing blue Benedict's solution (a Cu2+ reagent that converts an aldehyde into a carboxylic acid). Heated in a water bath, a red precipitate of Cu2O forms which shows the concentrated presence of the sugar.
