White Phosphorous is Highly Reactive in Oxygen
White phosphorus contains discrete tetrahedral P4 molecules, is very reactive & pyrophoric. Red phosphorus has a polymeric network structure and is much less reactive. It is the essential compound on the striking surface of a match box.
