COMPLEX ION FORMATION: NH3(LIGAND) ADDED TO CuSO4
NiCl2 & Ni(NH3)6Cl2 Solutions in Beakers
Pale green Ni2+ ion reacts as a Lewis acid with the addition of the ligand (NH3)2- to form the deep blue coordination compound Ni(NH3)6Cl2, which contains the complex ion [Ni(NH3)6]2+. This process can be reversed by the addition of H+.
