QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS FOR CATIONS
Separation of Subgroup I Cations
Addition of 6 M HCl produces a mixed precipitate of AgCl(s) and HgCl2(s). The other eight cations have soluable chlorides. The AgCl(s) and Hg2Cl2(s) are separated by a reaction with 6 M NH3(aq).
