COMPARISON OF COPPER & ZINC IN HYDROCHLORIC ACID
Copper Doesn't React; Zinc Does
Coils of Copper & Zinc are placed in test tubes containing 0.5M HCl(aq). Zinc reacts with HCl to form ZnCl2 & H2(g). Zn(s) + 2H+(aq) = Zn2+(aq) + H2(g): Zinc is oxidized -loses electrons. Hydrogen is reduced -gains electrons.
