COMPLEX ION FORMATION: NH3(LIGAND) ADDED TO CuSO4
Copper Sulfate And Ammonium Hydroxide.
The Cu2+ ion in the .05M CuSO4(aq) acts as a Lewis Acid. The addition of the Ligand (NH3)2- (middle) begins the conversion of the pale blue [Cu(H2O)4]2+ ion (left) to the deep blue [Cu(NH3)4]2+ ion (right).
