STABLE EQUILIBRIUM: STACK OF BOOKS ON TABLE EDGE
Relating Center of Gravity to Area of Support
The maximum distance from the table edge to the center of mass of the topmost book is the sum of the successive overhangs. By stacking enough books it is possible to make the stable pile lie as far off the table as desired.
