SODIUM DISSOLVES IN LIQUID AMMONIA
A Piece Of Na(s) Is Added To NH3(l)
The exothermic reaction is slow at cold temperatures & the Sodium dissolves to form a deep blue solution of metal cations and dissolved electrons. 2Na(s) + 2NH3(l) -> 2Na+(soln) + 2NH2-(soln) + H2(g).
